Help for children afraid of the dark or scared of monsters

Welcome to Little Children Big Dreams - our aim is to help more children fear less.

Children sleeping - happy dreams

It is very common for young children to be afraid of the dark or to be scared of monsters. Often though this leads to frightening dreams, frequent night waking (often for your whole family!), challenging behaviour at bedtime and, worst of all, distress for your little one which can go on for months or even years. It can be hard to know how best to help.

Little Children Big Dreams allows you to create a personalized story for your child to help conquer their night fears quickly and effectively. These delightful stories have been developed by Child Psychiatrist Dr Kaylene Henderson using her knowledge of successful therapeutic principles. All you need to do is add a few simple details about your child (e.g. first name, gender, town/suburb etc) to make them the star of their own fear-fighting tale! Each story comes with a certificate for your child and an accompanying parent guide. This parent guide, written by Dr Henderson, provides easy-to-follow instructions on how to use the story to help your child overcome their fear of the dark or fear of monsters!

There are two great stories for you to choose from:

Once you have printed your child’s story you will see space for your child’s illustrations on each page. When your child draws their fears for you, they let you into their world. Better still, drawing their own pictures helps to involve your child in the story and in its message of bravery which leads to quicker improvements.

Testimonials for Little Children Big Dreams

Read about how Little Children Big Dreams has helped these children’s fear of the dark and monster dreams, and in doing so, improved these children’s sleep:

‘Not long after my first daughter turned 4, she started having bad dreams about a monster and became scared of the dark. She started to need one of us to be in bed with her before she would fall asleep. We had months of sleepless nights and were feeling quite desperate by the time we found Little Children Big Dreams. She LOVED her story, I think even more so because it was about her. And we loved the fact that we didn’t have to do anything TO her for her fears to improve, rather we used the story to help beat the fear together. The parent guide was also very helpful. Its suggestions on how to talk with my daughter about her story and her fears were really simple. It wasn’t long until my child could sleep through the night again, and I’m not sure who was more proud - her or us - that she had gotten past her fear!‘
